The Ultimate Guide To: Threaded Rod

What is a threaded rod?

A threaded rod is typically a long length of fully threaded steel, allowing it to function as a fastener by causing a tightening action from rotating the rod. The threading on a rod also allows for other fixings such as bolts and nuts to easily screw or fasten to it.

Threaded rods are commonly used in a range of industries including manufacturing, construction and plumbing.

How to choose the best threaded rod for you

At Direct Channel, we have several different types of threaded rod available to suit different conditions, materials and purposes.

We offer all sizes of threaded rod from M6 to M24 in 1m, 2m and 3m lengths along with all nuts, washers, support brackets & fixings. One of the main benefits of threaded rod is that it can be cut down to a specific length that suits your requirements.

We also have several different types of threaded rod available including mild steel, high tensile, hot-dipped galvanised and A4 stainless steel.

If you’re unsure of which threaded rod is suitable for your project, use the live chat feature on our website and we’ll be happy to help!

Cutting your threaded rod

As mentioned, your threaded rod may need to be cut to perfectly fit your requirements. Although you can easily cut your rod using a rod cutter, you can still make the cut with a hacksaw.

To ensure the rod remains still in your vice, we recommend taking a small block of wood and drilling a hole into it and inserting the rod into the hole, using a nut on each side to hold it in place – this will prevent the rod from spinning in the vice as you try and cut it.
