What is Cable Trunking?

When you have installed cables, you want to be sure that they last as long as you need them to. One way to do this is by ‘cable trunking’. Cable trunking is essentially a way to protect a group of cables from accidental damage, mechanical impact, dust, water, and any other external extremities.

Not only is cable trunking useful for protecting cables, but it can also make them look less visually intrusive and untidy.

How is Cable Trunking Installed?

The method of cable trunking is done by housing cables and other electrical components through an enclosed channel. The channel is usually made from metal. Once the cables have been threaded and enclosed within the cable trunk, it is then secured — usually to a wall.

Securing the cable trunking to a wall protects the cables further from elements such as water, dust and mechanical impact. Also, if the cable trunking is not secured, it can become a hazard to those around it.

In addition, cable trunking doesn’t have to just mean that cables are enclosed in a straight line to where they are needed. Cable trunks can go around corners using 90 degree top lids and internal lids.

Our Range of Cable Trunking

Cable trunking comes in different sizes depending on the number of cables and the size of the cables that need to be enclosed.

50mm x 50mm Cable Trunking

The 50mm x 50mm that we offer is 3 metres long but can be cut down to the appropriate length. To complement the 50mm x 50mm cable trunking, we offer a range of other components such as cable trunking couplers and end caps.

100mm x 100mm Cable Trunking

Similar to the 50mm x 50mm cable trunking, we offer 100mm x 100mm cable trunking and a range of complimenting components.

150mm x 150mm Cable Trunking

The largest cable trunking option that we offer at Direct Channel is 150mm x 150mm. Made from pre-galvanised steel, there is a range of components that can be used to tailor it to each specific requirement.
